Registering the apprenticeship requires a “program sponsor”– the entity responsible for registering, administering, and operating the program.
Some employers leverage a third-party to take on all or some of the administrative duties related to sponsorship.
Although employers have the option to deliver training internally, many partner with community colleges, schools, four-year institutions, or training providers to offer the instructional component of the program.
Workforce Centers, nonprofit organizations, educational institutions, professional associations can support sponsors by:
- Recruiting and screening candidates to be apprentices
- Providing pre-apprenticeship and basic skills preparation
- Providing supportive services (such as tools, uniforms, equipment, or books)
- Contributing funding for on-the-job training or related instruction
